Back-End.org Site Migration

OpenConcept Consulting Inc. has decided to stop maintaining an active demonstration of the Back-End.org CMS which it developed for a number of years.  Efforts to keep up with security patches with this older code base have been too time consuming.  We will continue to maintain this site, but need to actively encourage people to migrate to a modern CMS like Drupal.org.

Alternatives to Back-End

Eliot just wrote up a nice report for CUPE National about alternatives to Back-End. It's worth while reading as CUPE still has the largest Back-End install. It's been heavily customized, but still the core of Back-End offered a simple interface for a bilingual site and allowed for a high degree of customization, especially in presentation.

Back-End.org as a Distribution of Drupal.org?

For the last two years there hasn't been any development to speak of on the old Back-End CMS code base. It is essentially a dead project at this point.

However, there is now an opportunity with Drupal's code to replicate much of what we were trying to accomplish with Back-End. A multi-lingual, hierarchical CMS with tools for sections (categories), articles (pages), links, polls and wiki.

The biggest challenge is still i18n, however by producing a distribution of Drupal, we could make it easier for individuals who aren't comfortable configuring things.

Should Back-End.org become a distrobution of Drupal.org?

Have you ever tried Back-End.org CMS
